A little history of the Castello & San Remo.
On April 19, 1920, the First World War Allies leaders, working through the League of Nations, gathered at the Castello Devachan in San Remo, Italy to carve up Turkey and parts of the Middle East. With the last dusk of the International Peace Conference, the conferees granted France the mandate for both Syria and Lebanon. The British received the mandate for Iraq, and also Palestine, under a provision creating a Jewish homeland. The Allied Heads of State, inlcuding the UK Prime Minister, Lloyd George, the French & Italian Presidents, Millerand and Nitti, actually held their meetings in the part of the Castello that is now our apartment, where they discussed the various territorial problems, including the general framework of the Turkish peace treaty. We have a set of the minutes of that Conference & will gladly email a copy to any guest booking a stay in our apartment. A famous American painter has painted a large canvas of the Conference, and this now hangs in the entrance hall.

| The North West Italy region |
San Remo is the capital town of the Italian Riviera of Flowers.
It is located very close to the French border and only about 20 minutes drive from Monte Carlo, Monaco.
Its climate has been widely appreciated since the 1800's, but its artistic heritage, permeated by that typically Ligurian shyness, which escapes from any focus of attention, is still largely unknown.
As a matter of fact, its views are extremely suggestive and its architecture and landscape make of this strip of land expanding up to the French boundary a real pearl of Italy.
Restaurants nearby include G&G in the centre of town, Mare Blu, (just down the road from the Gucci, Prada and Guess stores) Ulisse (where you can enjoy a fantastic 9 course meal for Euro 30 per head), and Della Palme in the old harbour. Don't miss out on the fantastic selection of ice creams at the Living Garden by the sea.
A must to see is the Russian Orthodox Church, Villa Ormond, the open-air market every Tuesday and Saturday, and the famous San Remo Casino.
San Remo is the town of art, culture, and sports: fishing, diving, canoeing, wind surfing, and motorboating - together with golfing, riding, swimming, baseball, and fitness facilities.

| Italian Riviera Linguria San Remo area |
San Remo is also called the Town of Flowers - its flowers are well-known all over the world - and this can be clearly seen in its luxuriant gardens, its colourful flowerbeds, and in the town parks where tropical plants flourish.
Our suggestion is to explore Sanremo in its most secret places, bit by bit, and do take your time. . .

Skiing information: In winter, skiers will find snow-covered ski runs at Limone Piemonte and a little further away, at Monesi and Santo Stefano d'Aveto.
Golf information: The Sanremo Golf Course is ten minutes drive from the apartment. It has 18 holes, the greens are found in a beautiful mountain scenery. The course has its own bar, restaurant and congress centre. The course is used by many international champions and it is one of the very few golf courses in northern Italy that is open throughout the year The Club was founded in 1932 and it is one of the most important golf clubs in the Mediterranean area. It was designed by English architects and was the very first golf club in Italy. Set in a marvellous natural scenery, the Golf Club is surrounded by age-old olive groves and luxuriant hills - just overlooking the Ligurian Sea. It is the perfect place for 'golf lovers' and it can suit both experts and beginners. You can spend the day among the olive groves and then enjoy a tasty dinner at the Golf Club restaurant. Throughout the year several important events are organized here, such as the International Winter Tournament in February organised by the Rotary Fellowship, the 'Trofeo delle Due Riviere' (i.e., the 'Trophy of the Two Rivieras') in March, and other events that take place in summer and fall.

I want to document how much Olga & I enjoyed our stay at Castello Devachan. As well you know, I have a rather extensive knowledge of the Castello, visually, from having created the painting for you relating to the 1920 League of Nations' conference there after World War I. I was not prepared, however, for the beauty of the Castello & the wonderful accommodations your place provided. Olga and I thoroughly enjoyed the facilities, the patio and garden, the magnificent views from the dining room and patio, and the feeling of total privacy one experienced. One warning to all who stay there....The master bedroom is so very conducive to sleep, one can miss most of the day!! Total luxury and quiet. As this was our first visit to San Remo (not, of course to Italy), we both fell in love with the city. It had everything and was not overwhelming. The proximity to other towns and to Genova was a definite plus. We both agree that Castello Devachan was one of favorite stops - David Schor FL. USA
'We had a wonderful stay in San Remo! Allesandro took good care of us, & the driver he found, Livio Faraldi, was great. He took us on two day trips in Italy - the Apricale loop and to the Cinque Terre, two highlights of the holiday. The apartment was comfortable & we enjoyed the patio & view much. In all, we were very pleased and had a superb vacation. Jim Conkright Kansas US 11/10/06
**
Superb apartment. Good access from airport & a nice drive to such a characterful town. Even found time to sample the delights of France, which is deceptively close. Not enough time to do everything or sample the great cuisine of the area, so will have to come back..02/09/03 - P Hook - UK ** Great flat! Great setting & comfort! We enjoyed the golf at local club & had fabulous fish in the restaurants - Robert - UK 02/08/03

'We had a wonderful time at the Castello. The apartment was set up with all we needed and when we had any questions or issues, the property manager was always available. Rosario USA
