The Costa De La Luz region

The Costa de la Luz is situated between Gibraltar and Portugal's Algarve. The Atlantic ocean, warmed here by the Gulf Stream, washes the beaches with its tides.

This coast is where families from inland Spain come to enjoy their holidays and Spanish is the language you will mainly hear, although a little English is spoken in one or two bars, restaurants and shops.

The summers are hot and sunny but not uncomfortably so, the Atlantic breezes relieve the heat and in winter the days remain warm and sunny so you can still sit outside and enjoy a drink or meal, and take part in your favourite sport or activity.

Conil, a picturesque whitewashed village, spreads up the hill from the seafront. Popular with Spanish tourists, it has pedestrianised squares lined with restaurants & tapas bars, a street specialising in ice cream parlours, and a selection of interesting shops.

The Inland hilltop villages of Medina Sidonia and Vejer are well worth a visit, typically Spanish, with narrow streets and flower filled patios.

Cadiz, Europe's oldest city , has a fascinating history, the discovery of America bringing its prosperity. Today's Cadiz has narrow streets full of local colour, gardens and attractive buildings, as well as beaches and a busy marina.

Jerez, famous for sherry production, flamenco and horses. Regular tours of the bodegas of Domecq, Terry, Williams & Humbert etc., include displays of horsemanship and flamenco as well as a fascinating insight into sherry production. The Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art is in the grounds of the Cadenas Palace; and just ouside Jerez is the Yeguada de la Cartuja where the beautiful Carthusian horses are bred.

Seville, visit the Alcazar, or come for Semana Santa (Easter Week) with its processions, followed by the Feria de Seville, one huge flamenco party.

A 13 km boat trip along the Guadalquivir River from Sanlucar de Barrameda takes you through the Donana National Park, home to many permanent and visiting species of wildlife. 125 species of birds are known to reside here, as well as reptiles, amphibians and several species of fish. There is a rich variety of mammals, some in danger of extinction, such as the lynx and the Egyptian mongoose. There are also red and fallow deer, and wild boar.

For an exciting family day out, try the Aqua Park at El Puerto de Santa Maria with its superb views oover the Bay of Cadiz. The Park is open between 15th June and 15th September (approximately).

Chiclana La Rana Verde area

Rana Verde is a suburb of the coastal town of Chiclana de la Frontera. The area has a mixture of residential properties and small fincas, where fruit and vegetables are grown.

The villa is approximately 7 minutes drive from the fabulous Blue Flag beach of La Barrosa and the unspoilt Costa Sancti Petri beaches.

La Barrosa has a restaurant lined promenade which buzzes with life on summer evenings, with street vendors, artists & musicians. The beach itself extends for miles beyond the promenade and is backed by sand dunes.

The abandoned village of Costa Sancti Petri has a fishing harbour, marina and a water sports centre. There is a choice of beaches as well as restaurants and bars along the newly renovated promenade. The derelict buildings are expected to be renovated in keeping with their original style in due course.

A string of pretty, sheltered coves divide La Barrosa from neighbouring Conil's beaches.

Chiclana itself is a typical Spanish town which has undergone considerable sympathetic restoration in recent years. It has attractive traditional style buildings and a pedestrianised shopping area, also a covered market selling fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, and a great variety of seafood.

The Spa of Chiclana, at Fuente Amarga offers various treatments including mud baths and massage.

A Moroccan Hammam at Novo Sancti Petri offers candlelit baths, massage, dining and bellydance performances, in a beautiful setting, perfect for relaxing. Or simply enjoy a romantic dinner on the rooftop terrace with views across the pine forest.

Fiestas which include fairs, pilgrimages, carnivals, mock battles between Moors and Christians and religious processions are too numerous to list here.

There is also a 24/7 Clinic in Chiclana Town, where English is spoken, should you be unfortunate enough to have a medical problem while on holiday.

We are happy to assist you with booking events, activities etc.
